  General Notes:

See note with Maria Hawley

Info from 1851 census forwarded to F. O'Hara by Jane Cote:
The family is shown as living in a log shanty. Quite a lot about the Irish of Tipperary in Nepean in `The City Beyond' by Bruce Elliott.
We know from other sources that Roderick Hawley did come from Tipperary and that his daughter Maria was born in Tipperary too. However, on her death certificate she is shown as being born in County Wexford, information being given by the parish priest who must have stuck a pin in the map of Ireland to come up with Wexford which is on the opposite side of the country IN fact she had two death certificates, one saying she died of old age and debility (sick 4 days) and reported by the priest dated 3 months after her death. The second one, reported much later but by the attending physician has her dying from chronic diarrhea after 6 months illness (horrors). She was shown as born in Ireland, no county given so at least he didn't guess. Moral of the story: Can't believe everytthing you read in these registrations but they are a good first clue. Jane

  Medical Notes:

His son Edward reported the death and signed his name with an X. He was only 5 when he left Ireland and there were probably no decent schools when they arrived in Fallowfield (Ottawa).

Roderick married Ann. (Ann was born in 1804 in Ireland.)
