Not sure of dates for Thomas
Brother of Michael (1805-1897) - married Ann Butler -- 3 children: Mick, Dennis, John
(From Jane Cote)
Also discovered at Quebec Archives a brother of our great grandfather, Thomas, called John with whom Thomas shared a farm until they severed it so that John could sell his half. John P Brennan, brother of Dennis, is mentioned on one of the documents as resident in `Cloquet', Minnesota. The document is dated May 3, 1899 and he may have returned at that time to see his ailing mother and brother, both of whom died later that month. John received $100. from the will of his father Thomas (which he is acknowledging in the document) and perhaps he gave the money to Jane Casey after Dennis' death and that might be the kernel from which grew the story of him buying her a house in Ottawa. He is shown as a laborer so that doesn't sound like a rich man.
By the way, John and Michael Brennan, who were the youngest of Dennis' brothers, both sign their names with a fine, penmanship flourish whereas Peter was illiterate and Thomas just able to sign a shaky signature. I figured that by the time the youngest members of the family came along there was a school to go to and was pleased to see my hunch turn out right. This suggests that if Dennis was not illiterate, he was pretty close to it.
Thomas married Ellen Devine in Eardley, Aylmer, Quebec. (Ellen Devine was born in 1826 in Sligo, Ireland,3 died on 30 Dec 1897 in Eardley, Quebec and was buried in St. Paul Cemetery, Aylmer, Quebec, Canada.)
