General Notes:
Presumably came to Canada in the late 1840's although her parents may have been among the first settlers who cleard the land in the Township of March between 1820 and 1840.
Smith's Canadian Gasetteer, in 1846, indicate that only 3,100 of 20,700 acres in march were under cultivation - hardly one-seventh of the land in the township. Nearly 1,400 acres of Crown Land were still available for a purchase price of eight shillings per acre.
From the 1851 census of Upper Canada, 140 farmers in March Touwnsip were actively engaged in cultivation of crops on their own land. Approximately 75 farm labourers, recent immigrants who arrived with virtually nothing took on wage contacts as farm labourere with the purpose of establishg themselves as farmers on their own property at a later date.
Margaret married William Kennedy @1845. (William Kennedy was born in 1819 in Connaught, Ireland and died in 1903 in S. March, Ontario, Canada.)
